  13. requirements and installation instructions.

  15. Before you install Netscape 7.0 PR 1, be sure to 
  16. read the Release Notes, which describe known problems

  32. To view and use the new streamlined "Modern" theme,
  33. your display monitor should be set to display 
  34. thousands of colors. For users who cannot set their 
  35. displays to use more than 256 colors, Netscape 
  36. recommends using the "Classic" theme for
  37. Netscape 7.0 PR 1.
  38.     
  39. To select the Classic theme after you have installed
  40. Netscape 7.0 PR 1:
  41.     
  42.      1. Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
  43.      2. Under the Appearance category, choose Themes.
  44.      3. Click to select the Classic theme.
  45.      4. Click OK.
  46.         Changed themes take effect after you restart 
  47.         Netscape 7.0 PR 1.
  48.  
  49. During installation, the creation of temporary files
  50. requires more free disk space than listed below.

  94. - For Mac OS and Windows users, it is strongly 
  95. recommended that you exit all programs before running 
  96. the setup program. Also, you should temporarily 
  97. disable virus-detection software.
  98.  
  99. - Install into a clean (new) directory. Installing on
  100. top of released product builds may cause problems.
  101.  
  102. - The Profile Manager lets you create different 
  103. profiles, each with its own bookmarks, preferences, 
  104. email settings, and other user-specific settings. To 
  105. work with profiles, you must first exit the browser, 
  106. then open the Profile Manager:
  107.  
  108.     * On Windows, open the Start menu and choose 
  109.     Programs, then Netscape 7.0, then Profile Manager.
  110.     * On Mac OS, open the Netscape folder and then 
  111.     double-click the Profile Manager.
  112.     * On Linux, type the following at the command 
  113.     line: 
  114.       ./netscape -profilemanager
  115.  
  116. For more information, open the Help menu, choose Help 
  117. and Support Center, and click Managing Profiles.

  125. *Installation Instructions -- Windows
  126.      
  127.      1. If you are installing from the CD: 
  128.      - Double-click the Windows directory on the 
  129.      Netscape 7.0 PR 1 CD to open it, if you haven't 
  130.      done so already. 
  131.      
  132.      If you are downloading from the Netscape site:
  133.      - Click the NSsetup.exe link to download it to
  134.      your machine.
  135.      
  136.      2. Double-click the NSsetup.exe program icon on 
  137.      your machine to begin the Setup program.
  138.      
  139.      3. Follow the on-screen instructions in the 
  140.      Setup program. The program starts automatically 
  141.      the first time.
  142.  
  143.      Note: On Windows, Netscape 7.0 PR 1 includes 
  144.      Quick Launch. Quick Launch shortens the time it 
  145.      takes for Netscape to start. If your computer is 
  146.      low on memory, and you enable Quick Launch during
  147.      installation, you have the option in Netscape
  148.      to temporarily or permanently disable Quick 
  149.      Launch. For more information about using Quick
  150.      Launch, open the Help menu and choose Help and 
  151.      Support Center; then click the Search tab in the 
  152.      left frame, type "Quick Launch", and press Enter.

  154. *Installation Instructions -- Mac OS
  155.  
  156.      Note: It is strongly recommended that you do not
  157.      disable extensions before installing 
  158.      Netscape 7.0 PR 1 on Mac OS.

  160.      1. If you are installing from the CD:
  161.      - Skip to step 3 now.
  162.      
  163.      If you are downloading from the Netscape site:
  164.      - Click the MacNetscapeInstaller.sea.bin link 
  165.      to download it to your machine. For Mac OS X, 
  166.      click the Netscape-macosX.sit.bin link.
  167.      
  168.      By default, the download file (compressed in
  169.      MacBinary II format, with an extension of .bin)
  170.      is downloaded to your desktop.
  171.      
  172.      If the downloaded file does not expand 
  173.      automatically, you must expand the file using a 
  174.      program such as StuffIt Expander. If you don't 
  175.      have StuffIt Expander, you can get a copy by
  176.      visiting:

  180.      Note: For the Mac OS X version of Netscape 
  181.      7.0 PR 1, no further installation is required. 
  182.      Launch Netscape 7.0 PR 1 by double-clicking on
  183.      the "Netscape" icon in the folder
  184.      where the downloaded file was expanded.

  186.      2. Double-click the Netscape Installer 
  187.      folder.
  188.      
  189.      3. Double-click the Netscape Installer 
  190.      icon.
  191.      
  192.      4. Follow the on-screen instructions to 
  193.      complete the installation process. The 
  194.      program starts automatically the first time.

  196. *Installation Instructions -- Unix

  198.      1. If you are installing from the CD:
  199.      - Change to the Linux directory on the CD: 
  200.      cd linux. Then skip to step 3.
  201.      
  202.      If you are downloading from the Netscape site:
  203.      - Download the 
  204.      netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz 
  205.      archive.
  206.  
  207.      2. Type one of the following to gunzip and 
  208.      untar the archive: 
  209.  
  210. tar -zxvf netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz
  211.  
  212.      OR
  213.  
  214. gzip -dc netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz | tar xvf -
  215.      
  216.      3. Change to the directory that contains the
  217.      Netscape installation files:
  218.      cd netscape-installer
  219.  
  220.      4. Run the Netscape 7.0 PR 1 Installer with the run 
  221.      script:
  222.        ./netscape-installer
  223.      
  224.      5. Follow the on-screen instructions to 
  225.      complete the installation process.

  227.      6. To start Netscape, change to the directory 
  228.      where you installed it and run the program: 
  229.        ./netscape 
  230.      The program starts automatically the first time.
